The Center for Health Research (CHR) is currently seeking applicants for three investigator positions at the Distinguished Investigator, Senior Investigator, and Investigator levels. The science at CHR is fueled by our investigators, who are conducting a broad portfolio of research within a very supportive infrastructure. We are especially interested at this time in scientists who are working on social determinants of health, applied and translational genomics, cancer care and survivorship, addiction, and infectious disease epidemiology/vaccine safety and efficacy. CHR was founded in 1964 by Dr. Mitch Greenlick. Dr. Lucy Savitz is the current Center Director and Vice President for Health Research. Portland, Oregon serves as a home to CHR, operating as an embedded research center in the Kaiser Permanente Northwest Region’s health plan and hospitals. CHR’s science is guided by our directional strategies:

• Mission: Advancing knowledge to improve health for all.

• Vision: To be a collaborative research community that improves health by accelerating discovery, innovation, and broad application.

CHR has a strong history of collaboration and partnership. The Center is a founding member of the Health Care Systems Research Network (formerly the HMO Research Network), an international collaboration of 20 health plans and systems. This network developed and maintains a time-tested, Virtual Data Warehouse (the first “common data model”) that uses a federated data system structure. CHR serves as the data coordinating center for the VDW and staff are leaders for key data committees.

CHR is a world-class, public domain research center.
CHR’s extensive expertise in serving as a trusted database coordinator across partner institutions is a key competency.
CHR employs nationally recognized investigators in conducting embedded research in support of the learning health system.
CHR includes the Department of Translational and Applied Genomics (TAG) with a workforce experienced in genomic and biospecimen research. There is a potential opportunity for qualified applicants to assume a leadership role within TAG.
CHR oversees a noteworthy Biobank that was initiated in 2011 as well as participating in the larger KP National Research Bank, linking member specimens with patient-level electronic health record data. We also have access to tissue specimens collected at Kaiser Permanente Northwest during clinical procedures from as far back as 1971.
Our commitment to science across the research continuum is strongly anchored in our Clinical Research Support Services with over 120 active clinical trials in 14 clinical areas running at any given time.
CHR has centralized departments that provide grant application support, recruitment, data analysis and biostatistics, medical record abstraction, behavior assessment and change interventions, financial management, editing, and graphic design.
