New national holiday to be celebrated June 14 each year
RALEIGH, N.C. (June 7, 2024) — The Black Male Health Initiative (BMHI) proudly announces the establishment of the first National Black Male Health Day.
a commemorative occasion dedicated to promoting holistic wellness among Black men and youth. Through a series of events and activities, individuals and communities will come together to celebrate, educate, and advocate for the holistic health of Black males of all ages. This critically important day of celebration is also designed to serve as a reminder of the importance of prioritizing health and well-being in all aspects of life.
“Every year, millions of individuals overlook the importance of holistic health in their lives, especially Black males. We created National Black Male Health Day to fix that,” says BMHI’s Clif Morgan.
“Statistics reveal alarming health disparities affecting Black men. A dedicated day is essential to address these disparities head-on, promoting a culture of proactivity and preventive care,” says Dr. Melicia Whitt-Glover, executive director of the Council on Black Health, BMHI’s parent organization.
This year’s National Black Male Health Day awareness campaign consists of 5 Days of Action:
- Monday, June 10 – Sign the National Black Male Health Day Pledge.
- Tuesday, June 11 – Commit to personal well-being by getting or scheduling a health screening or other physical exam.
- Wednesday, June 12 – Advocate for change. View the educational documents and webinars on our Black Male Health Initiative page.
- Thursday, June 13 – Engage with the community by participating in local health fairs and other activities that promote fitness, stress reduction and overall well-being.
