ATLANTA – The Black Male Health Initiative (BMHI) had the privilege of participating as both co-host and guest speakers at the Black Man Lab (BML) Public Health & Nutrition event in Atlanta on February 19, 2024. This event marked the beginning of a burgeoning business relationship between our organizations. Over the past few months, BMHI has been actively engaging with BML with the aim of co-hosting a convening of organizations focused on serving Black males.
This convening is scheduled to take place in Atlanta during the late summer or fall season.
BML boasts extensive connections throughout Atlanta and its surrounding areas, including influential ties with the Mayor’s office of the city. Leveraging the collective networks of BML and BMHI, we envision conducting this event in Atlanta utilizing a Result Based Accountability (RBA) framework, ensuring tangible and impactful outcomes.
Moreover, BML has expressed openness to becoming a partner site for CBH’s Youth Advocacy program. Given BML’s strong rapport with youth and existing programs tailored to their needs, this presents a promising opportunity for collaboration. Additionally, BML operates the Black Woman’s Lab (BWL), catering to the specific needs of Black women. There are evident synergies for CBH to explore potential partnerships with BWL on various initiatives.
Notably, one of the co-founders of BML is a distinguished civil rights attorney, demonstrating a commitment to addressing

policy issues affecting the community. Their willingness to engage in discussions and potential collaborations with CBH on policy matters presents a valuable avenue for collective advocacy and action.
In alignment with our shared mission, BMHI is committed to “adopting” BML to ensure that our models are aligned, ultimately facilitating our joint efforts to support Black males in Atlanta in achieving optimal health and holistic well-being, transcending the mere absence of disease. Together, we can make meaningful strides towards equity and empowerment within the community.
